Whilst the Babycare TENS unit is a safe , drug-free and effective device for pain management during labour, there are certain conditions that are contra-indicated for its use.
In water-you must remove the pads if you want to shower or submerge into a bath of water.
Don't use before 37 weeks gestation-unless under the supervision of a health care professional. TENS is safe during labour, however before 37 weeks the stimulating pads can cause uterine contractions.
If you are pregnant, do NOT place the electrodes over your abdomen.
If you have a pacemaker-the electrical impulses may interfere with the function of these devices, potentially causing life-threatening issues.
If you have epilepsy-the stimulation through the electrodes can potentially trigger seizures in those with this condition.
If you have any skin irritations or lesions-the electrode pads should not be applied over areas of the skin that are infected, red or inflamed, or have open wounds. This could aggravate the skin condition or reduce the effectiveness of the stimulation.
Undiagnosed pain-don't use the TENS device for pain with an undiagnosed cause, especially if it is potentially related to some serious underlying medical conditions for example cancer or deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Always consult a healthcare professional to rule out any major conditions.
Heart conditions-the electrical impulses may affect heart function.
Near the eyes-do not place the pads near the eyes, temple or front of the neck as this may cause some adverse affects including dizziness and headaches.
Do NOT use if you experience an allergic reaction to the electrodes.
Whilst driving or operating heavy machinery-the stimulation from the TENS device may cause distraction and loss of concentration.
Always consult your healthcare practitioner if you have concerns about using Elle TENS, particularly if you have any of the above conditions or are unsure about how it may affect your health.
